Returns & Refunds

Clear guidance for damaged, incorrect or returned specimen orders.

Inspect Your Order

Please inspect your parcel and specimen as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

Because collectible marine and land shell specimens are individual natural objects, minor natural characteristics such as growth marks, healed injuries, color variation or species-specific features are not automatically considered damage.

The listing photographs and specimen condition notes form an important part of the item description.

Damaged Parcels

If a specimen arrives damaged, please contact ShellBidder as soon as reasonably possible.

Please provide clear photographs of:

  • The outer package
  • The shipping label
  • The internal packaging
  • The damaged specimen

Please keep the packaging until the issue has been reviewed, as postal or courier services may require evidence for a damage claim.

Incorrect Specimen or Material Listing Error

If you receive the wrong specimen, or if the specimen materially differs from its listing because of an error by ShellBidder, please contact us with your order number and photographs.

We will review the issue and determine an appropriate solution, which may include a return, replacement where possible, payment adjustment or refund.

Because many specimens are unique, an identical replacement may not always be available.

Change-of-Mind Returns

Because ShellBidder sells individual collectible specimens, customers should review photographs, measurements, condition notes and other listing information carefully before purchasing.

Change-of-mind returns are not automatically guaranteed unless required by applicable consumer law or specifically approved by ShellBidder.

Nothing in this policy limits any mandatory cancellation, withdrawal or return rights that apply under the law governing a particular customer transaction.

Return Authorization

Do not send a specimen back before contacting ShellBidder and receiving return instructions.

Unauthorized returns may create customs, tracking or delivery complications.

When a return is approved, customers should follow the return instructions provided for that order.

Return Condition

Unless the return concerns damage that existed on arrival, returned specimens should be:

  • The same specimen originally supplied
  • In substantially the same condition as received
  • Securely packaged
  • Returned with any specimen information or documentation supplied with the order

Return Shipping Costs

Responsibility for return shipping depends on the reason for the return and applicable consumer law.

Where the return results from an incorrect item, material listing error or other issue attributable to ShellBidder, the appropriate return arrangement will be determined during review.

For other approved returns, return shipping may be the responsibility of the buyer unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Customs on Returned Parcels

International returns should be clearly identified as returned merchandise where appropriate.

Customers should follow the return instructions provided by ShellBidder to reduce the risk of unnecessary customs charges or delays.

Refunds

Once an approved return or refund request has been reviewed, any approved refund will be processed according to the original transaction and applicable payment-provider rules.

Processing time may vary depending on the payment provider, bank or card issuer.

ShellBidder does not guarantee a fixed time for funds to appear in a customer’s account after a refund has been initiated.

Shipping Charges

Original shipping charges may or may not be refundable depending on:

  • The reason for the return
  • Applicable consumer law
  • Whether the shipping service has already been performed
  • The circumstances of the individual order

Any applicable refund amount will be confirmed during the return review.

Customs Duties & Import Taxes

Customs duties, import taxes or charges paid directly to authorities or third parties are generally outside ShellBidder’s control.

Customers may need to contact the relevant authority regarding reimbursement of those charges.

Lost or Delayed Parcels

A parcel that is delayed is not automatically considered lost.

International postal delivery times and tracking updates vary between destinations.

If a shipment appears to be lost, ShellBidder may need to review tracking information and, where appropriate, allow the postal operator or courier to complete its investigation before determining the next action.

Restricted or Undeliverable Shipments

If a shipment is returned because of incorrect customer information, refusal of delivery, unpaid import charges or destination-country import restrictions, any refund or reshipping decision will be reviewed based on the circumstances and applicable law.

Additional shipping costs may apply where reshipment is requested and legally possible.

Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in this Returns & Refunds Policy is intended to exclude or restrict rights that cannot legally be excluded under applicable consumer law.
